Public perceptions of LFMI
Seeking to find out public awareness of and attitudes toward the Lithuanian Free Market Institute (LFMI), the institute commissioned a survey of public opinion which was conducted by company Spinter tyrimai on April 26-30, 2011. The number of respondents polled totalled 1002. The survey represents the residents of entire Lithuania aged between 15 and 74. The method applied was a face-to-face-interview.
Compared to the results of the opinion poll carried out in 2003, the portion of people who know or have heard of LFMI increased in 2011: 48 percent of respondents reported to know or have heard of LFMI (compared to 37 percent in 2003).
More than half (56 percent) of those who know or have heard of LFMI said to trust LFMI as an independent and professional organisation: 7 percent indicated they trusted LFMI and 49 percent said they mostly trust LFMI. Compared to other institutions in Lithuania, LFMI ranks high in this respect.
The majority of respondents (61 percent) said they read or listen to commentaries by LFMI’s policy analysts when they see or hear them (14 percent reported a “mostly yes” answer and 47 percent said “yes, sometimes.”
Asked about their reaction to LFMI’s position, 58 percent of survey participant’s reported they agree with LFMI’s ideas (3 percent said they “always agree” and 55 percent indicated they “mostly agree.”) Only 21 percent of those polled expressed disagreement with LFMI’s position (18 percent said they “mostly disagree” and 3 percent reported they “always disagree”).
We are grateful to company “Spinter tyrimai” for conducting this survey as a donation.
