Annual event of the Lithuanian Free Market Institute

Date: 16-11-2007 18:00
It is with great pleasure that we kindly invite you to the annual event of the Lithuanian Free Market Institute (LFMI) which will be staged to commemorate LFMI’s unstoppable mission of nurturing the ideas of the free market, individual freedom, responsibility, and limited government.  The event will take place on Friday, November 16th, 2007 at 6 p. m. at the „Reval Hotel Lietuva“ (Konstitucijos Ave. 20, Vilnius).

We are delighted to present to you Johnny Munkhammar, a Swedish publicist, economic policy expert and political consultant. During the dinner, our guest will talk on the topic “Much talk, few results - stories of successes and failures of economic reforms”.

Quite a few reforms have been announced as completed in Lithuania, yet there are always some awaiting around the corner. Successful cases bring about positive change, opening people new roads and possibilities. Yet at the same time the changes spark doubts to anyone, be it an entrepreneur, an employee, or a civil servant. Reforms always bring uncertainty over the future.

The aim of Johnny Munkhammar’s new book “The Guide to Reform” is to inspire countries to carry out more reforms than are currently being done. This book analyzes which reforms are necessary and which way they should go. Mr. Munkhammar describes ten countries that successfully implemented reforms. Yet the main focus of this text is the obstacles that occur and how those obstacles should be tackled. The conclusion of this intriguing book is that it is vital and indeed possible to reform, and that the reforming governments have usually been re-elected.
